Any suggestions for a strange pet to own?
The house is a bit empty, and I have a lot of free time…
My family is looking for a pet to have, but I’m allergic to cats and dogs..
and I don’t want to have the typical family type pet anywho,
So I need ideas. I’m up for ANYTHING if it’s interesting and NOT an insect or spider. Reptiles sure, I’ve had a lizard before and have a 10 foot long boa constrictor at my dads, but I want this pet to be more unusual.
Maybe even a duck or sugar glider, anything like that. Nothing too creepy. Suggest ANYTHING!
I live in Washington State so it has to be legal of course. I don’t know the restrictions on Washington States pet policy, I tried looking a list up but I get muck.
Any suggestions help. Thank you ! 
Endangered species are illegal to own as pets (so no Bald Eagles or anything like that).
Here are the basics of the law in Washington State:
“Summary of Law: No person may possess or breed a potentially dangerous animal after July, 2007. A potentially dangerous animal includes but not limited to Large cats, wolves, bears, hyenas, non-human primates, elephants, alligators, crocodiles, water monitors, crocodile monitors; and various species of venomous snakes.” http://www.bornfreeusa.org/b4a2_exotic_animals_summary.php
You should call your local Fish and Wildlife because they will be able to tell you what you can and cannot have in your particular county/city, along with whatever paperwork you might need.
If your local pet store is selling something chances are pretty good that it’s legal to own, but if you shop in a store that’s in a different county or city that could change.
Sugar Glider sounds like a good choice and I’m pretty sure they’re legal (I live in WA too), but you may discover they are difficult to come across.
You might also consider homing pigeons (they’re not “strange”, but uncommon as pets — you can race them or use them to send messages back and forth to friends, and rollers are fun to watch).
